Memory

I went walking by Hamilton Elementary school today. I have vivid memories of going to that school for parent /teacher conferences, school concerts, barbeques, and bringing birthday goodies. 3 of my kids went there- it was a good school. I also walked through the upper field, where Erik played and practiced Lacrosse. I remember going to an alumni game there where Erik and his friends played against the highshool team. Guess who won!!!(Erik's team of alumni!)
I relate smells, sounds and sights to people, activities and places. I love the sound of Robins singing, this time of year. I have memories of my family's cabin on Lake Goodwin, and sleeping (the best sleep I've EVER had) in the bunkhouse there. I played 45's in the bunkhouse, songs such as "Black and White" by Three Dog Night; "Lean on Me" by Bill Withers; and "Sweet Home Alabama"-Lynnard Skynnard. Those summers were such fun at the cabin with the Nash, Badger, Shorten, Duffy and Binns kids, waterskiing, and swimming.
I love the smell of woodsmoke coming from the houses I walk by- I also love the smell of lilacs, and roses.
How about you? what do you remember when you walk into a room and smell a perfume or cologne that reminds you of someone from Highshool or college? My dad says he always likes the smell of rain on dry pavement ; Stu likes the smell of baking bread. Everyone likes something different.
My memories now are of music from Angela's kitchen- what a great idea, to have music playing all the time- she has some of that music on her blog, and it brings back great memories for me from last October. When I hear or see Sesame Street, I think of Harrison and Carson, because they used to like Elmo so much.
I hope you are all enjoying making memories- I hope I NEVER get Altzheimers Disease. How sad to lose your memory.
Have a good night. I am hoping to send some pictures of our mountains and waterfront soon. I love living in Port Angeles. Rain or whatever, I wouldn't live anywhere else!

When we went to San Diego to get married, Allen's mom and sisters gave me a basket of lotion and spray that were... sweetpea scented I think. And just like they said it would, everytime I smell them my mind goes right back to San Diego and our wedding day. I'll admit there are a few colognes that remind me of certain boyfriends, but I couldn't tell you what they are. I sure hope we get settled down into our lives soon so it's easier to start making better, more exciting memories. Right now the best ones I have from the recent past is Keyton projectile vomiting right into Allen's face after Christmas.

Smells are funny. The best ones are the terrible smells that still bring you back to nostalgia. Whenever I smell burning garbage, a dead animal, or corn tortillas being cooked, I have happy memories of the mission coupled with the 'ewww' factor. Rain on warm-to-hot pavement is good. Crackfill for roadwork, sealcoat, nasty lacrosse pads wafting in the duffle bag...mmm hmm.
