Stu and I just got back from a very fun vacation to the midwest and eastern states. We visited the Church historical sites, starting with Harmony, Pennsylvania;Sharon, Vermont; then Thru the Adirondack mountains(we stayed in the "Big Moose Lodge") in New york,; Palmyra; Then to Niagara Falls (very nice); Kirtland, Ohio; Then to Stu's brother, Dan's in Dayton, Ohio, area; Independence, Missouri- we went to Adamondiamon(spelling), Far west and Liberty Jail; Then we went to Nauvoo, Illinois, and ended up at Dan's for one more night..PHEW!!!!We drove at least 3 or more hours to get each place, then stayed overnight for the next day.
My favorite pasttime while Stu drove(It cost too much to add me as a driver...go figure) was to do an "easy" crossword puzzle book. I did all 111 of them in the two and a half weeks we were on the trip. (I did have to look in the back for the answers every once in a while!:)
Ate in several fun places- one of which was the "Waffle House"- local flavor in abundance(people were very fun); the other memorable restaurant was a Brazilian Steakhouse in Niagara falls. Yum, Yum, Yum!!!They bring steak, and other meats on skewers and carve it off for you at the table...
The motels/hotels were for the most part good- we had a problem with a broken bed, an air conditioner that didn't go below 73 degrees and a shower that was scalding, even on cold, but that was it. (by the way, they were all in the same hotel.....)
My favorite place to visit, by far (not including Dan and Vals, which is always the best!!!) was Nauvoo, Illinois. If I ever get to choose a mission to go on, it would be to go there, and either work a site, or work in the temple. I had a marvelous time in the temple and it was hard for me to leave it. We went twice- both times, the feeling there was so friendly, calm and inspiring, like the temple was my friend. LOVED IT!!!If you ever get a chance to go there- DO IT!!!!
I also got to ride in a carriage, and a wagon for tours there, and you know I love horses!!!
Here are pictures of some of the places we went. I will post some others, later.

Sounds like lots of fun! I love Nauvoo too, although I haven't been there since they built the temple. We're excited to see you in a few weeks!
What a great trip. It's always nice to get some time away. Dave and I actually just went to Kirtland on Memorial Day. The weather was perfect for it. We're planning on going to the other sites sometime this summer (hopefully) if Dave has time.
What a fun break after tax season. Your pictures look like postcards. We missed seeing you but it sounds like you were haveing a wonderful trip.
Wow, I guess Dad needs to be more picky about his hotels, eh? The falls look amazing, I hope I get to see them someday. Glad you're back though, so I can call you during the nighttime shows without waking you up accidentally. :)
One day, when our kids are between 8-15, we want to fly to Vermont, rent a motorhome, and do the trip you just did. So much fun! It's too bad we didn't get to cross paths since we were both hanging out on the mid-US freeways at the same time! :)
